Meet Your Wordwright
Welcome to The Wordwright for You
Details
A poorly composed document can reflect negatively on you and your organization.
My job is to make you look great!
A native Delawarean, I graduated from Ursuline Academy in Wilmington and attended the University of Delaware in Newark, where I studied English Literature. From an early age, I was passionate about reading. Whether I was racing through Nancy Drew mysteries at the age of eight, delving into the dark side with Stephen King as a teenager, being introduced to the classics in high school, or developing a true appreciation for Shakespeare in Professor Newman’s class, reading was always an adventure. It still is!
Words are magical in their ability to captivate and transport the reader. My love of language is the inspiration for The Wordwright for You, and I credit a few individuals for fostering this passion for words.
~ My mother, who always encouraged my reading ... and corrected my grammar.
~ Mrs. Allen, the first teacher to engage my attention and ignite a spark.
~ Professor Newman, who broadened my scope of, and appreciation for, literature
and writing.
In this digital age of texting and instant messaging, abbreviations and symbols replace entire sentences. The art of the written word in everyday communication seems nearly obsolete; however, the business arena, from large corporations to small companies, still demands excellent written communication skills.
Whether you are composing a business letter, designing marketing materials, or creating a presentation, the language must be clear, concise, and correct. Most importantly, it must grab the attention of a potential customer. Bad grammar, incorrect spelling, and awkward sentence structure can send a prospective client looking elsewhere.
The Wordwright for You provides services ranging from basic proofreading to more extensive copy editing to help you deliver well-crafted, clearly written documents. My goal is to ensure that your written material accurately reflects you and makes you stand out.
I proofread and edit a variety of materials, including:
~ corporate documents (letters, memos, reports, presentations)
~ marketing materials (advertisements, brochures, flyers)
~ grant requests and proposals
~ newsletters
~ website content
~ manuscripts
SERVICES
~ Basic Proofreading covers typos and errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage.
~ Extensive Proofreading includes basic proofreading, as well as checking structure, consistency,
and clarity.
~ Copy Editing is for projects that require more extensive editing, reworking of language, or rewriting.
RATES
There are different degrees of proofreading and editing, as outlined above. The price of a job depends on the size and complexity of the project; for example, basic proofreading of a 20-page presentation will take less time than if it requires extensive proofreading or copy editing.
Rates vary depending on the scope of the project:
~ Basic proofreading ... $0.038 per word
~ Extensive Proofreading ... $0.045 per word
~ Copy Editing/Rewriting ... $0.049 per word
I offer estimates free of charge on all work. Pricing also can be set on a per project basis. Please note that there is a 1,000-word ($38) minimum charge on all projects.
~ Documents can be sent electronically or as hard copy. I use Microsoft Word® to edit digital documents.
Upon completion, I will send you the tracked-changes version, as well as a clean copy.
~ Typical turnaround time is two to three business days; however, I can accommodate limited rush jobs.
~ Payment: One-third of the total fee is required when the project is accepted. The remainder is
expected upon completion of work. Payment can be made by check or credit card. I accept
credit card payments through a secure PayPal® account.
"Valerie has been editing and proofreading all of my material, from letters, to marketing pieces, to the long and
involved work that was my website. She is amazing! She turns my broken English (my native language is French) into beautiful, yet simple, sentences, without losing any of my spirit. It looks and feels just like I wrote
it myself, only better. I love it! Additionally, she is prompt in her work, delivers when promised and always has
a smile on. It's a pleasure working with her!”

"The attribute that stands out in my memory of Valerie's work was her capacity to produce superlative results.
She was the go-to for most of the staff at the radio station for proofing and editing. Her professionalism always
stood out as an example of best practice."

"I always feel confident handing off a proofreading assignment to Valerie. She’s not only conscientious and
thorough, she’s very pleasant to work with."
